With the growing market demand for intelligent manufacturing in the manufacturing industry, accelerating the advancement of intelligent manufacturing has become an industry consensus. On November 17-18, 2022, Alps System Integration (Dalian) Co., Ltd. (abbreviated as “ALSI”) was invited to participate in the “8th International Intelligent Manufacturing (Wuhan) Forum” to exchange industry development trends with renowned scholars, experts, and intelligent manufacturing vendors from home and abroad, jointly exploring the path to transformation and innovation.

The “8th International Intelligent Manufacturing (Wuhan) Forum” specially set up a theme summit on “Intelligent Manufacturing Promotion Strategies.” Dr. Zhang Xiaohui, Director of ALSI, delivered a speech with the theme “Automation ≠ Cost Reduction & Efficiency Increase -- IoT + Lean + Digitalization Empowering Intelligent Manufacturing Upgrade and Beyond.”

When traditional manufacturing transforms to intelligent manufacturing, companies often first think of introducing automated machinery and equipment to replace workers with machines. However, Dr. Zhang Xiaohui pointed out that automation also brings a series of new challenges to enterprises: changes in labor structure with more maintenance personnel; changes in cost structure where energy consumption and equipment maintenance become a huge expense; production capacity efficiency is determined by equipment, making it increasingly important to improve equipment OEE. To address these issues, Dr. Zhang Xiaohui, starting from on-site problems, proposed three key factors for the success of automation construction, helping enterprises solve the difficulties in automation construction.

Reduce Equipment Loss and Improve OEE
The first key factor for the success of automation construction is to reduce equipment loss and improve OEE. With over 30 years of hands-on experience in manufacturing sites and combining Japanese lean thinking, ALSI has summarized a three-step approach to improving OEE, using IoT data collection to identify problems from data, analyze them, and find solutions. Dr. Zhang Xiaohui introduced to the on-site guests ALSI’s specially developed data collection solution for equipment of different ages: the device data collector TS-10 + Smart Button, which easily solves the problem of collecting status data from old equipment at low cost, continuously improving equipment OEE.

Strengthen Maintenance Management and Reduce Costs
The second key factor for successful automation implementation is to strengthen scientific management of equipment maintenance, covering two aspects: how to maintain equipment health and control maintenance costs. ALSI’s smart maintenance system leverages IoT technology and the TPM concept of all-staff maintenance reflecting lean production to help enterprises achieve comprehensive equipment management, realizing the effect of “cost reduction and efficiency increase” in automation construction.

Against the background of the “dual carbon” goals, ALSI believes that the third key factor is to monitor equipment energy consumption and electricity usage, suppress energy waste, and achieve the goal of reducing consumption and increasing efficiency.
Automation construction cannot be achieved overnight. Only by doing the above three points well can an enterprise press the “fast-forward button” on automation construction and achieve the expected results.

For a long time, ALSI has combined “on-site awareness” with “lean thinking,” focusing on the pain points and difficulties encountered by manufacturing enterprises in the process of promoting intelligent manufacturing, providing solutions and professional services that are easy to accept and implement on the manufacturing site. It hopes to bring more transformation inspiration to enterprises, consolidate the foundation of industrial intelligent manufacturing, and promote the high-quality development of the intelligent manufacturing industry.
Later, we will organize and share the content of this speech, “Automation ≠ Cost Reduction & Efficiency Increase -- IoT + Lean + Digitalization Empowering Intelligent Manufacturing Upgrade and Beyond,” on the official public account of [ALSI Intelligent Manufacturing]. We look forward to further exchange and discussion with colleagues to jointly promote the upgrade and transcendence of the intelligent manufacturing industry.
