The principle of equipment layering management involves organizing equipment into different tiers to clarify priorities in management, highlight key points at each level, and enhance the management efficiency of a smart factory. It mainly includes the following three aspects: Based on the main body of equipment management, equipment management is divided from bottom to top into the Field Layer, the Execution Layer, and the Operations Layer. According to different entities in the Field Layer, the equipment field can be further divided into the operator level and the maintenance team level. The Execution Layer management, also known as workshop-level management, focuses on formulating short-term equipment management plans and establishing a standardized management system. The Operations Layer management, also referred to as company-level management, emphasizes performance evaluation and data analysis of equipment, as well as formulating long-term smart factory management plans.

Equipment is managed hierarchically based on its importance. Applying the same management approach to all equipment uniformly would inevitably increase management costs. By distinguishing equipment according to its criticality, unnecessary workload can be reduced, management efficiency improved, priorities made clear, work focus highlighted, and smart factory management costs lowered.
